திருப்பாவை (Thiruppaavai 23)

"மாரி மலைமுழைஞ்சில் மன்னிக் கிடந்துறங்கும்

சீரிய சிங்கம் அறிவுற்றுத் தீவிழித்து

வேரி மயிர்பொங்க எப்பாடும் பேர்ந்துதறி

மூரி நிமிர்ந்து முழங்கிப் புறப்பட்டுப்

போதருமா போலேநீ பூவைப்பூவண்ணா உன்

கோயில்நின் றிங்ஙனே போந்தருளிக் கோப்புடைய

சீரிய சிங்காசனத் திருந்து யாம்வந்த

காரியம் ஆராய்ந்து அருளேலோ ரெம்பாவாய்."

பொருள்:

மழைக்காலத்தில் மலைக்குகையில் (தன் துணையோடு/)அமைதியாக உறங்கி கிடந்த சிங்கமானது விழித்துக் கொண்டு  கண்களில் தீப்பொறி பறக்க, பிடரி மயிர் சிலிர்த்துக் கொள்ள, உடலை உதறி நிமிர்ந்து கர்ஜனையிட்டுக் கொண்டே குகையிலிருந்து வெளி வருவது போல, காயாம் பூ போன்ற நிறமுடைய நீயும் உன் கோயிலிலிருந்து வெளியே வந்து இங்கு எழுந்தருளி அழகிய வேலைப்பாடுகள் அமைந்த சிம்மாசனத்தில் அமர்ந்து, நாங்கள் இங்கு வந்துள்ள காரணத்தைஆராய்ந்து  எங்களுக்கு அருள் செய்வாயாக!

malai - mountain

muzhaiNYcil - in a cave (with

mannik kitan^thu – silently/wife (??- not sure) lying

uRaNGkum * - united sleeping

cIriya ciNGkam - brave lion

aRivuRRuth - comes to senses

thI vizhiththu *-(opens his) fiery eyes

vEri mayir poNGka – (root hair)mane shaking (his body)

eppaatum pErn^thu uthaRi * -on all sides bending/moving shaking

mUri nimirn^thu – (murithu)into shape, standing up

muzhaNGkip puRappattup * - roaring (as if) starting (to)

pOtharumaa pOlE nI - go; like that you

pUvaip pU vaNNaa * un - bilberry flower colored (from) your

kOyil ninRu iNGNGanE - temple standing in this manner

pOn^th aruLi * kOpputaiya - come (and) grace . Decorated

cIriya ciNGkaacanaththu - Great throne(You)

irun^thu * yaam van^tha - Seated (on) our coming

kaariyam aaraayn^thu aruL -purpose examine (and) grace (us).

El Or empaavaay - Come (Let us do) (the penance of) paavai nOmbu
